SIMON Thornton has made the decision to play in the Irish Open in September so he can make some memories for his children.
The head pro at Spa Golf club, who lives in Newcastle, has spent the last six weeks deliberating over whether to travel to America to represent Ireland at the PGA Cup, or play in the Irish Open in Newcastle.

“It’s mainly for family reasons. My kids weren’t old enough when I played on Tour so they don’t remember. We have pictures, and my wife and I have memories, and we travelled a lot, but they don’t have memories.”
