Valley Rangers Ladies recorded an incredible 16-3 win over Camlough Rovers Ladies last Monday night (7 July), a result that earned them a spot in the quarterfinals of the NIWFA Local Women Sport Super Cup. The Super Cup pits teams from the nine divisions within the NIWFA pyramid against each other.
The Kilkeel girls were clinical in front of goal from start to finish as they convincingly saw off their NIWFA Championship opponents, with Elaine Patterson and striker Caitlin Rae proving to be the star performers at Bignian Park. Captain Patterson scored twice and assisted seven of the goals, while Rae scored five. Stefanie Ardis, Rebecca Patterson, Lily Ferguson, and Aimee O’Higgins also netted.
It’s a result made all the more impressive given the fact Camlough Ladies play four divisions above Valley. Valley’s reward for their giant-killing act is a quarter-final home tie against another NIWFA Championship team, Sion Swifts.
Monday’s landslide win was followed by a 10-1 thrashing of St Mary’s Ladies last Thursday night, a result that put Valley five points clear at the top of NIWFA Division 4.
