An inspirational Warrenpoint woman has created a 2026 charity calendar to raise funds for stroke services. Pauline Grills BEM explained that she wanted to do something as a way of thanking everyone who helped her when she had a mini stroke this time last year.
Pauline’s calendar is titled ‘A Stroke of Luck – another sporting chance’. “I weathered a storm recently in December 2024, when I suffered a mini stroke but happily was quickly back to enjoying my usual activities, discharged from the Community Stroke team early in the year,” Pauline explained.
“Each month illustrates these interests, sporting and creative, I am blessed to have as a big part of my daily life at 98! Again, keeping positive and determined has helped my recovery and I want to share this encouragement to keep going with other stroke survivors.
“I would like to sincerely thank the Newry and Mourne Community Stroke team, especially Tracy, Michelle, Brenda, Sean, and Sally, and particularly Sharon from the Stroke Association, for their outstanding care which got me right back on track.”
The local woman also thanked Ulster Carpets of Portadown for its sponsorship of the charity calendar. “We are very grateful to them for their generosity and kindness,” she added.
“The calendar is to raise funds for these services which make an enormous difference to stroke survivors and their families. A very special thank you to Hugh Murray, from Diamonds, who hosted the launch event and provided, complimentary, his legendary scones, shortbread and spectacular mince pies with the teas and coffees to contribute to our cause.
“Finally, I would like to thank all my friends, family and wonderful neighbours for cheering me on, good sports each and every one!” Pauline also wishes everyone a happy and healthy Christmas.
