THE site of a former Newcastle shop, which in its heyday was a firm favourite with visitors and residents alike, is on the market for half a million pounds.

People of a certain age will fondly remember visits to the Fountain Shop, on the corner of Central Promenade and Bryansford Road – an area also known locally as Bajonis Corner.

Selling everything from buckets and spades to its famous homemade fudge, and many other treats essential to day-trippers and locals, it was owned by the Ogle family.

The shop derived its name from the structure once facing it, the famous ‘Percy French Memorial Fountain’, which was subsequently removed from the promenade.

‘Rarely do plots of this size come for sale in such a sought-after area so enquire early to avoid disappointment,’ its sales brochure states.

In the current issue read more details about the sale.
