DRUMANESS Mills Reserves take on Ballynagross in the first of this season’s Bobby Dalzell semi-finals on Friday night.

The game, which will take place at Robert Adams Park, home of Kilmore Rec, pits together traditional Newcastle League Premier Division heavyweights Ballynagross against a team who were only promoted from Division One last season in the Mills.

Drumaness manager Stephen Boyd says his team’s semi-final appearance is another step in the right direction as the Mills look to establish themselves as a Premier Division outfit.

“Our aim is to get Drumaness Reserves to a level where they’re competing at the very top end of the Newcastle League.

“Reaching the Bobby Dalzell semi-final is another step in that process for us and we’re very grateful to get there,” Boyd explained.

Drumaness defeated Kilmore Rec Rovers and Celtic Bhoys Academy to reach the semi-final, while Ballynagross overcame Downpatrick and Ballyvea Thirds.

Boyd said the 5-2 quarter-final win over Celtic Bhoys was a significant result for both him and the team.

“Beating Celtic Bhoys was certainly a monkey off our backs.

“Since I took over the reserves, that’s the fifth time I’ve played Celtic Bhoys seconds and that’s the first victory we’ve got over them, whether it be in the league or the cup.

“That was a big win for us.”
